We have been working with the UK military school for a number of years across all 3 of our school sites. The instructors have worked with all key stage areas from key stage 1 right through to key stage 5. They provide professional and reliable staff that form positive relationships with staff and students and offer wide range of educational opportunities. We have focused primarily on social and emotional development as well as resilience and self-esteem. The instructors have also provided a range of career development opportunities for our post-16 provision including CV writing and interview techniques. 

We have recently begun to utilise the offer of military mentors in school. These full time members of staff have supported students across all curriculum areas. They provide positive role models to the students along with a consistent and supportive approach that matches the school ethos. 

One of the biggest advantages of our partnership with UKMS has been the introduction of Military Mentors in school; we were really struggling to source quality, consistent support for our significant SEND children until we recruited our first mentor. 

We have found them to be reliable, patient, resourceful and always ready to go above and beyond; from helping in Breakfast Club to volunteering at community events. Mostly, they have had a huge positive impact on our most vulnerable children; they are happier now and making clear progress. 

This wouldn’t have been the case without the consistent high-quality support from the Military Mentors. Their presence in school has lifted both morale and other staff performance – I now don’t know what we would do without them!
